The vaginal ring is a flexible, plastic ring that is inserted into the vagina monthly. It contains estrogen and progestins similar to most birth control pills. Once the ring is inserted it is worn for 21 days, removed for 7 days so that a period may occur, then a new ring is inserted. Continuous usage is done by removing a ring at three weeks and insert a new ring immediately resulting in continuous hormones and lighter to no period.
